Every commission moves through three states.
The happy path
PENDING → PROCEED → COMPLETE
(created) (matured) (paid out)
- PENDING — created when Stripe confirms the event. Not yet eligible for payout.
- PROCEED — the hold period has elapsed (3 days for LEAD, 30 for SALE/RECURRING). Eligible for payout.
- COMPLETE — you've paid the partner.
Refunds
When Stripe sends charge.refunded:

| COMPLETE | Commission is deleted and the partner's balance is debited. |
For organizations and referral chains, the clawback cascades to every linked commission automatically.
Subscription cancellation
When a partner's referred customer cancels (customer.subscription.deleted), all remaining PENDING commissions for that subscription are removed. Commissions that already reached PROCEED or COMPLETE are preserved.
